I. Am. In. Love. With. This. Town.

Oh. My. God.

Okay, I’ll stop talking like that now. I just can’t even. It’s SO PRETTY. I’ve seen a lot of pretty towns in my life, but there’s something special about this one.

The first morning we were there, after breakfast at the hotel (which was an omelet and fruit and juice – lulo is WEIRD) we headed out to explore. Well, and to walk the wall part of the walled city. It’s not quite all the way around anymore, but you can get pretty close. We found some squares and plenty of churches. And so many adorable streets, barely one car wide, to wander.

Part of the wall – This is how the cars got in!
One of the many squares we found.
This was the view out the front door of our hotel.

The goal for later that afternoon was to find Getsemani, the part of town known for its crazy nightclubs and party scene. Not sure the middle of the afternoon is the best time for parties, but we (okay, I) really wanted to check it out.

Random alley in Getsemani

I was NOT disappointed. More adorable streets. More cute narrow alleyways. We found some of the places where they take THOSE pictures. Then we found a happy hour at a corner bar…

I’d seen tons of pics of this alley. Took most of a day to find it!

I don’t know exactly what it was about this place, but it got me. Maybe it was the brightly painted buildings, or maybe the second story balconies with all the gorgeous flowers spilling from them. Or maybe the beautiful music leaking out of almost every door on the street. …the iconic alley with the upside down umbrellas hanging above it… the squares with all the tables and umbrellas… the cathedral, so beautifully lit up at night….

Catedral de Cartagena de Indias, all lit up at night.

I don’t know if we’ll ever get back to Cartagena, but I definitely left a little piece of my heart there forever.
