Matt and I discovered mud season in Steamboat on accident a few years ago… We wanted to get out of Denver for a long weekend, and hadn’t been to Steamboat in a bit. I logged on to Hotels.com and took a look…

Lo and behold, we could get a nice condo with a separate bedroom and a full kitchen for peanuts! I was SO EXCITED.

We have since made mud season in Steamboat a tradition. The deals on condos (and hotel rooms, if that’s more your style) are awesome. Not all of the restaurants in town are open, but those that are have great deals, beyond the always-awesome happy hour specials that are the norm.

A few awesome places to try: Steamboat Whiskey Company has all day happy hour during mud season. They have great small batch craft liquor. This year we tried Mambo Italiano for the first time, and it was incredible. Artisan pizzas are half price during happy hour, and they were fantastic. Besame, their sister restaurant that features Latin fare, had a great Taco Tuesday deal, 3 tacos for $10 and $5 house margs (which were REALLY good!) Salt and Lime is also an awesome option for margs and tacos, but they weren’t open this year – apparently they had a grease fire and will reopen in a few weeks. Glad that’s all it will take, they are probably our favorite!
