When I was a kid, my Abuelo used to take me to the US Air Force Museum on somewhat of a regular basis. It was always a kind of a magical place, and I have really fond memories of going there. I remember he would always pay the extra so we could take the bus to the far hangars and see the REALLY cool stuff – even if I can’t quite remember what that was!

When Matt suggested heading up there while we were visiting his parents, I jumped at the chance. We hadn’t been there in years, and I’ve always loved the place.

And boy it did NOT disappoint. There’s something about seeing these HUGE aircraft inside the hangars that just makes you feel like a kid again.

We wandered around for hours, staring up in awe at the likes of the Strawberry Bitch and the Memphis Bell, and the huge rockets in the space hangar. Getting to go up into some of the planes was pretty cool too. And all the versions of Air Force One are always interesting. As it turned out, you don’t have to pay extra to see that stuff anymore. There are four hangars now instead of only two.

After the museum, we found a sandwich shop in our old neighborhood for lunch and did the run around, driving past our old house and my parents’ before we headed back to Cincy… What a great day!
