Oh, Puerto Rico. I can’t even describe how the place makes me feel. It’s the small mountain towns with huge views of the ocean, the stunning sunsets over the water

I went to Puerto Rico for the first time when I was in high school. I loved it then – the smells of the food, the riot of bougainvillea exploding from random bushes on the side of the street, the music escaping from every open door

When Matt and I started talking about someday moving to the islands, it was the first place that came to my mind. From what I remembered, the island has both things we love – beaches AND mountains. And the culture is what I grew up with and Matt married into all those years ago.

We went for the first time together in 2019, and we both loved it. I can’t remember how we found it, but that’s when we discovered Rincón.

We had every intention of going back in 2020, but, well, we all know how THAT ended up

Anyway. We finally made it back this fall. We spent a week in RincĂłn this time, and opted to stay at an Air BnB close to town.

Much to our delight, not much had changed. We were worried about what the pandemic had done to the place, and also the hurricane that ripped through the week before we went, but other than only having power from 5:00 am til 9:00 pm, things were pretty normal.

The town square hasn’t changed, the brewery is still slinging pints, and the Thursday night art walk and live music on the square is still happening.

“RincĂłn me Encanta” – I love RincĂłn. Fitting.

We had a wonderful time in RincĂłn. We were able to visit some of the neighboring towns and check out new beaches and lighthouses. We even took surfing lessons one day! SO much fun!

Surfing! This was the only pic we got – we were busy trying to stand up on our boards!

Oh, and the sunsets. Oh. My. Goodness. We caught the sunset every night we were there, and they rivaled the infamous Hawaii sunsets on the North Shore and Maui.

Our time in RincĂłn ended way too soon and we headed to San Juan for a couple days before heading back home.

We took an awesome, Puerto Rico – style road trip to San Juan, but that’s another story for another time.
