After a wonderful week in Rincón, it was time to move on and make our way back to San Juan for a few more nights before heading home.
Thankfully, the roads were okay enough from Hurricane Fiona that we were able to take the road trip around the southern part of the island. Well, at least most of it was.
On our way, we stopped by some old fort ruins, where we took one of the mosquito-y-est hikes I’ve ever been on. It was worth it, though – the view of the Caribbean from the top was incredible!

We went through Ponce, where we checked out the old fire house, and I had a giant ice cream cone. We found a fresh water lake up in the mountains, and then a major road closure when we were looking for some tree that was supposed to be really cool… We had to turn around from that one, but really, we got to see everything we wanted to.
When we got to the city, we found the Andalucia Guest House with no issues and checked in. That afternoon, we figured out how far we were from the beach (we could walk!), and wandered around the Santurce neighborhood until we decided where to have dinner.
The next couple days we mostly hung out at various beaches. We went to Old San Juan one evening, because really, when in Rome, right? We did actually check out El Morro, which we hadn’t last time, and that was really fascinating.

All in all, the trip was FANTASTIC. We got to really experience Puerto Rico, we felt. As always, I left sniffling, but it was with a see ya later instead of a goodbye.
