Sometimes in the winter, it’s nice to do something besides skiing. Well, I think so anyway. So every once in awhile, I can convince Matt to go snowshoeing with me instead.
We decided Brainard Lake was the best place to go – I had heard that the snow conditions there were pretty good – so we picked a day and off we went!
The trail was really well marked with little snowshoe symbols, and the ups were gentle enough that we didn’t feel like we were dying. We meandered through the forest and eventually came upon what we figured had to be a lake.

Well, we were pretty sure it was a lake. It was a wide expanse of white snow that perhaps could have been a meadow, but there was a lake on the map, so… We crossed right over the edge of it, listening for cracking under our feet so as not to fall in!

Eventually we got out to Brainard Lake, (which is quite obviously a lake), hung out for a few, took some pictures, and headed back to the car.
We stopped in the little town of Nederland for lunch on the way home, which actually has a BBQ joint that doubles as a brewery (or is it a brewery that doubles as a BBQ joint?) that’s really good.

All in all, a pretty satisfying, non-skiing winter day!
