The day we left, I managed to sleep until 6:15 or so, even after waking up when Matt went to work. I spent the morning running around like a chicken sans head, changing sheets and doing laundry and cleaning bathrooms and watering plants and making sure I didn’t forget anything…

By the time I got to work, I was done. And of course, the day dragged on for eternity. The hour and a half between 2:30 and 4:00 took at LEAST six hours… But. I survived and headed home.

I changed clothes and we called an Uber and off to the airport we went!

We (okay, I) thought we might make it to the Capital One lounge before it closed at 9:00, but not a chance. We decided to go have dinner at the Mexican joint instead. Funny enough, we ran into one of my coworkers there, whose flight had been horribly delayed. He surprised us by buying our drinks, which was super cool.

We got on the plane, and had an uneventful, if bumpy, flight to Boston. I slept most of the way. Why in HELL we have to go to Boston to go to Puerto Rico is beyond me, but whatever.

We landed just before 5:00 am, and went to our next gate. We happened to walk by a Priority Pass lounge, which didn’t open until 6:00, but we were able to get in and spent most of the time in Boston eating breakfast, drinking coffee, and chilling at the lounge.

I have to admit, that is one seriously awesome perk of our credit card. I always feel so special! And free food and booze doesn’t suck. Ever.

Our second flight was also fairly routine, and we (FINALLY) landed in San Juan. We found our checked bag after some confusion regarding which carousel it was coming out of, grabbed it, and called the rental car company for a shuttle.

Took us a couple tries, but we eventually found the place where they were parked and headed out. The line when we arrived was fairly long. Thankfully it didn’t take THAT long before we got our car – and we got a free upgrade because the little cars were all out.

We drove across the island – trying not to fall asleep on the way – and made it to Rincon. We found our AirBnB with minimal issues and went inside.

A shower later, and we were on our way to dinner at the Beach House – and a killer sunset spot. We had some food and rum punch and went back to the house to sleep.

Ahhhhhh. There’s nothing quite like the first night of sleep on vacation….  I slept forever. SO good.

The next morning, I made some coffee, chilled out…  Not too long after, Matt got up. We had (real) avocado toast for breakfast, chilled for a bit longer, and headed into Rincon for the Sunday farmers market.

On our way to the market, we managed to come upon the race in town – Tri Rincon. We followed what we think was the person DFL until she turned off towards the finish line… Slow, but FUN!

The market is held in the town square. It wasn’t quite as good as I’d hoped it would be – I was sorta expecting it to be like the Thursday night art walks – but it was still cool to walk around a bit. We had some cacao frappes that were TO DIE FOR. Holy shit, I’m not sure I’ve ever had something ao good. And with crunchy bits of cacao in the drink and whipped cream that tasted like it was sent from heaven… Damn. That is all.

We wandered around town for a little bit, then realized we should get going if we wanted to go to Crash Boat. We headed back to the car and went back to the apartment to get our stuff for the beach.

Crash Boat Beach is about 45 minutes up the road. We turned onto the street it’s on and then realized there were cars parked all the way up the road… We drove all the way down to the second parking lot and realized we didn’t have a prayer. Matt dropped me off with our stuff and went back to find a spot for the car.

Eventually he made it down to the beach. We hung out, we snorkeled, we hung out some more… It was SO hot. At one point, we went to the bar on the beach and had a six pack of Corona… It’s mostly water, after all…

Hydration at its best!

The snorkeling was pretty cool – we saw a manta ray. Or a sting ray. Not sure what it was. Matt jumped in off the docks. We hung out a bit longer.

We packed up not long after getting out of the water, went back to the apartment, cleaned up, and then hit Caddy’s Calypso for dinner. We’d been there the first time we came, back in 2019, but the whole thing has been remodeled and it beautiful now! The $2.50 rum punch is still pretty damned good., as were the ahi tuna tacos. And the sunset…!

Then back to the apartment. We gathered some stuff for tomorrow, as we get up at 5:00 am, and went to bed. Tomorrow – river adventures!!

Have a watch:
