We talked last night about what we wanted to do the next couple of days. We (okay, I) had twenty million ideas of what to do and where to go, but as we thought about it, we realized we’re tired and tired of driving and that this is our vacation and we should chill the hell out. So I think we’re going to try to do some video in and around Rincòn and see what we can find around here. I’m relieved we don’t have to drive hours again today..

We made eggs and toast for breakfast after coffee, hung out for a bit, and headed out to try to find El Ultimo Salto, a local waterfall that looked cool in the pictures. According to the internet, it’s called “el ultimo” (“the last one”) because a bunch of people have jumped in and missed the deep spot and gotten pretty hurt or died.

We followed the directions on how to get there, and we realized we were right on top of it. Upon closer inspection, there was no water flowing, AND nowhere to park, so we decided to call it a bust and headed to the beach.

When we were at Calypso the other night, we’d asked our server what was a good swimming beach, and she suggested Playa Los Almendros, a little bit down south of town.

That beach was everything we wanted. It had shade, it had very few people, the water was nice and calm… I even went in the ocean and swam for a while! We hung out, had some lunch, read books…

On our way back to town, we stopped at the little shops on the beach and had a drink – pina colada for Matt and a mojito for me – YUM.

I love it when my drink comes with an umbrella! Spires Market FTW!

We went back to the apartment, showered, and chilled for a bit. Then we headed to Cafe Olas for drinks before dinner.

On our way, we stopped to check out Steps Beach, so named for the old concrete steps that randomly hang out in the middle of the beach. It was cool, if super rocky. Supposedly the snorkeling there is amazing, but we couldn’t figure out how in hell you’d get in the water with all the rocks, so we didn’t go back. That’ll be another adventure for another trip.

We’d seen Ola Sunset Cafe when we were here last, when everything was closed for lack of power from Hurricane Fiona. I spent the last two years wanting to go, and finally got to! It’s by the lighthouse and overlooks Domes Beach, which actually had some semblance of waves and a few people out on surfboards to watch.

Domes Beach from above.

I ordered a mojito, not realizing it was going to be the size of my head… 32 oz of mint, lime, and rum! Thankfully it wasn’t super strong. Pretty good, though.

That was one big ass mojito!

We wandered around the lighthouse for a bit, then headed a few minutes away for dinner.

Rincón Lighthouse

I’m pretty sure La Copa Llena was the place we tried to go for our anniversary the first time we came, and it was closed, so we defaulted to the Shipwreck Bar that time. This time, it was open. And it was SO GOOD! The mojitos were excellent, and my fried shrimp 🍤 and mashed potatoes were incredible! The sunset on the beach wasn’t too shabby either…
