We didn’t sleep too late this morning (okay, not late at all), and over coffee and a papaya for breakfast decided we should go down to Cabo Rojo for the day. We got our stuff together and headed out.
We decided to stop by the bakery, where we got pastelitos de guayaba that were ginormous, on our way. The drive was meh, but at least I’d had the presence of mind to get directions straight to the plaza in town. We wandered around town for a few minutes, then headed to find a statue of some pirate whose name I can’t remember right now. (Didn’t matter – we didn’t find the statue.)

We went into the Balneario de Boquerón, which is the deepest, most protected bay on the west side of the island at least, and since we had to pay $4 to get in, decided to hang for a bit.
The beach was beautiful. Nice soft sand, palm trees for shade… But no food, no drinks, no bathrooms… After a while we packed up and headed to the other beach I wanted to visit, Playa Buye.

Holy shit. It was alright, but it was small, and it was CROWDED. People EVERYWHERE. We managed to squeeze ourselves into a somewhat shady spot and settled in.

Matt took a dip, I read a book, we had a beer… When we’d had enough, we packed up and headed back towards Rincón.

On the way, we (finally!) stopped by one of the little bars up on the hill (Pal22) overlooking the ocean. SO PRETTY! And the mojitos were good, and the ceviche was the best I’ve had in a long time, proper, made by “cooking” fish in vinegar and citrus… Delicious!

On our way back to town we decided to check out some tunnel that was on this tiny road right on the ocean… The tunnel was blocked, but the road was awesome! And SO steep to get in and out of!
We got back, I attempted to take a shower in the trickle of water that we had (oh yeah, we’re three for three for not having water in PR), managed to cool off at least, then went to the beach in town for sunset.

Gorgeous, as usual. Then we had a beer at the little place on the beach, and my sorry ass didn’t want to go back yet, so we stopped in town at the Rincón Beer Co. and had another beer. Then back to pack up and go to bed. Tomorrow, we head to San Juan.
