We went to El Yunque today! We woke up at a reasonable hour and got out the door without wasting too much time. Thankfully, the drive wasn’t crazy, and we arrived at the park fairly quickly.

We decided to just stop at all the pull outs and see what was there. I’d done some research, and half the things I had found were closed for construction.

We stopped at a tower that we were able to climb, a waterfall that was fairly spectacular, and then at the end of the road. We found out we could walk all the way to the top and the fort on top of El Yunque Peak, so we did. It was all paved, and kind of annoying, but the views from the top, alternately in and out of the clouds, was spectacular. Totally worth it.

We took the road back to the car and realized we were starving. My initial thought had been to go all the way to Fajardo, but we were so hungry we decided to just go to the Kioskos de Luquillo for lunch instead.

We found (more!) ceviche at a Peruvian joint, then headed back to San Juan. We’d decided to go to Isla Verde for a bit on our way back and hang at the beach. The beach at 5:30 in the afternoon on a Friday is amazing. Plenty of people, but oh-so-nice…

When we’d had enough, we stopped by the grocery for some snacks and a bottle of wine, and settled in for a nice quiet evening at home. SO nice. And necessary…
