We were in no hurry this morning – had our coffee and some avocado toast for breakfast… Damn, I love the avocados here. They’re the big green ones, nice and watery and delicious!
We decided to head over to Isla Verde for the day, and we were there, set up, and parked for the day by 10:00 am. It was beautiful. Not terribly hot, and we were in the shade of some palm trees anyway, and there was a beautiful breeze…. I even went in the water! SO nice!

At lunch time-ish, Matt went to the CVS and found us sandwiches and beer. Medalla for the win!
We hung out til almost 3:00! Then we came back to the apartment, grabbed showers, slept a while, and decided to go back to Old San Juan for the evening.
La Verguenza for a mojito, sunset behind El Morro… Then pizza in one of the back alley courtyard restaurants… We were stuffed! An Uber ride home (with leftover pizza in hand) later, and back we were. Bed time!

After a lazy morning, we decided to see if we could find a black sand beach on the southern Caribbean coast of the island. Playa Los Bohios, it’s called.
The drive down wasn’t too hateful – just over an hour, most of it on big highway-type roads. The last few kilometers were windy, but the ups and downs over the hills and the spectacular ocean views more than made up for it.
We found the beach pretty easily, and it was mostly deserted. There was some black sand, and it was really pretty with the contrast of the black sand, normal colored sand, and blue ocean…

We hung out for a bit, Matt jumped in the water, we flew the drone… It was quite pleasant. After a while, we were hungry and decided it was lunch time.
We found a little restaurant called El Muelle, and it was PACKED! Luckily, we got seats at the counter on the porch, and settled in for some mojitos, Medalla, shrimp, and fish. Delicious!

After lunch, we tried to go check out the lighthouse, but the gates were closed and locked, so that was a bust. We did, however, find the highway that went through the longest tunnel in PR, which was vaguely interesting. On our way back up the hills, we stopped at a roadside bar where the karaoke was going strong! We chugged a beer and headed back to San Juan.

Then showers, chilling out, pizza and leftover wine for dinner, and we tried to walk to the local bar – and it was closed. There’s not shit open around here on a Sunday night. We drove to Loiza instead, and had a drink at a couple places (Elevado and Raíces), and then went back to the apartment and to bed.
Here’s the video:
