We got off the ship this morning and went to wander around town. It was beautiful, with a gorgeous church in a square and the coolest library I’ve ever seen. We walked off the beaten path for a bit and wandered the neighborhoods, which is always cool. The town, Fort-de-France, is very European. I guess it’s a territory of France still, and the people are French citizens.

Unfortunately, it was Sunday, and everything was closed. We tried to go to a really cool fort that was closed, all the cute little shops and restaurants were closed, pretty much everything. I guess the people here take their day of rest very seriously.

As we wandered, we came to a big park, which happened to have restrooms. Good thing, because I had to GO. I had the most interesting toilet experience of my life. The public toilets have a button to let you in. Matt went first, and when he came out the light turned red and the door locked and we heard all sorts of strange noises – kinda sounded like a car wash. Finally, the door opened, and I went in. Everything was wet. I hovered and did my business, and then hit the button for toilet paper. I got two squares of one ply. Thank goodness I had just peed… I came out and the process repeated. I’m pretty sure the whole thing gets sprayed out and disinfected in between each person that goes. It was the cleanest, best smelling public toilet I have ever had the pleasure of using, but it sure was interesting!
After wandering, we went back to the ship, had lunch, and chilled by the pool for a while. We hit the Sunset Bar, where I had a Mai Tai – not a “your tie” like the bartender said. 😂 Then we went back to the room for a nap – I was determined to stay up past 10:00 pm!
It seemed to work. After dinner, we went to the show, up to one of the lounges for a bit, then bed. Tomorrow we reach our last port of call, St. Kitts.
